Siberian Oxygen creates story-driven indie folk-pop where warm vocal harmonies, subtle guitar arrangements and poetic songs about growth, letting go and human connection come together. Based in the Utrecht region of the Netherlands, the band primarily performs original material and is known for concerts that draw audiences in — intimate, honest and captivating.
With the arrival of singer Jorien Habing, the band has entered a new chapter, bringing fresh energy and a renewed dynamic to the stage.
Biography
Siberian Oxygen was founded in 2010 by René Mijderwijk and Marcel Bouvrie and has grown into a six-piece band from the Utrecht region of the Netherlands. With three full-length albums, two EPs and a loyal following, the band has spent years performing at a wide range of venues, from intimate living-room concerts to theatres and cultural events.
In April 2025, the band released its latest album, Roots and Branches, recorded at The Recordingshack in Zeist and produced by Bernard Schomaker. The album is a layered collection of songs about growth, letting go and connection, carried by warm harmonies and subtle acoustic arrangements. With the addition of singer Jorien Habing, Siberian Oxygen adds a new voice and fresh energy to its distinctive sound.
The band performs both amplified and fully acoustic shows and feels equally at home in theatres, cultural venues and listening-room settings. Previous highlights include a sold-out performance at Beauforthuis, a packed show at Torenlaan Theater, and a successful debut in the new line-up at Podium Oost Utrecht.
Inspired by artists such as Eva Cassidy, Damien Rice and Leonard Cohen.
